On 2 May 2023 Nelson Mandela University concluded an agreement with the South African National Energy Institute (SANEDI), to undertake a project to develop the Eastern Cape’s Green Hydrogen Strategy and Road Map. 

Nelson Mandela University’s project team works closely the Eastern Cape Provincial Government’s Department of Economic Development, Environment, and Tourism (DEDEAT), the South African National Energy Institute (SANEDI), and the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI).  While the Department of Science and Innovation provided the project funding, SANEDI is the project administrator for monitoring and reporting purposes.
