This platform is hosted by the Nelson Mandela University located in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is part of a knowledge platform that includes on-going research, training and discussions with a broad focus on the emerging green hydrogen economy in South Africa and beyond. There is a specific focus on the context of the Eastern Cape province.

The goal of the platform is to create an online knowledge hub that provides stakeholders in the green hydrogen economy with access to up-to-date information and analyses and an archive of the development of this knowledge over time. Several similar initiatives have arisen over the last few years and our hope in this regard is twofold. One, that productive collaborations across institutions can be established, and, two, that we can provide insights into the Eastern Cape context that might be useful to all stakeholders, given that the province has been identified as a potential key site for the developing green hydrogen sector.

This platform is meant to serve all stakeholders - government officials, investors, project developers, communities and interested parties from outside South Africa. Its content is therefore not of an academic and technical nature, although over time we plan to include links to such publications. Rather, this is part of the community outreach and social engagement activities of the universities, which Nelson Mandela Universty places a high priority on.
The green hydrogen sector is incipient and dynamic, which means the information on this platform will be updated and supplemented constantly. We therefore encourage regular check backs by our users.
